REASON TO CELEBRATE

“Celebrate good times come on!” Is what I hear in my head as we prepare for our Celebration Night Fundraising event on August 27th. We are celebrating all the LORD has done through our Children’s Clubs this summer and all He’s going to do in the Discovery Time school ministry season ahead. It’s also my husband and mine 30th wedding anniversary so indeed Celebrations are afoot, and I give God the glory for it all! Yes, it’s true, it took both my husband and I to make the decision to want to work on our marriage but as we did, God blessed it and through years of practice I think we’re finally starting to get it. Isn’t that the truth for the Christian walk too?

Believing in Jesus as my personal LORD and Savior, confessing that I trust in him for my salvation does not instantly make me a better person, but it does instantly wipe away all my sin, (1John 1:7) past, present and future and build a bridge to my Creator that I could never do of my own effort. That’s why we get to celebrate when someone puts their trust in Jesus. God did through his own hand (Isaiah 59:16)  through Jesus what we could never do for ourselves. Purify our hearts and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.

Like a marriage, that is only the beginning. Next comes the daily practice of intentionally making time for one another & letting go of old habits that will only hinder the relationship. Following Jesus is a lot like a marriage. We choose to believe the best and examine our own heart and motives. We choose to let go of hurt & grab a hold of comfort and grace to get through it. We choose to love instead of hate, learning it’s not about getting my way but rather sacrificing it for the greater good. It’s the love Jesus modelled for his bride, the Church. Putting himself on the altar (Exodus 30:10, Leviticus 17:11) as the final sacrifice for a sinful world. Romans 3:25 Now that is something to celebrate!
