BEAUTIFUL BLUE

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1

The window in my office frames a beautiful view of the sky. It’s nice because all day long I can hear the hustle and bustle of the city, since right on the other side of the wall is an intersection. Every time I turn my head, my eyes are directed upward toward this magnificent sight.  It’s so refreshing to be able to just look up and escape into the splendor of the Lord’s creation, even if only for a few moments. To just sit and soak in His presence and ponder the work of His hands. The heavens show us who God is. They point us to the Creator.

Looking at the sky, is like looking at a piece of art work that God has painted. Except the beauty of it cannot be hidden or put away. No matter where any one stands in this world, when you look up, there it is for all to delight in. Rich or poor, it does not matter the view is open to all. It is powerful, vast and majestic. Yet, it carries feather pillows that fly within the beautiful blue that surrounds them.  It’s fascinating and always changing. Every second presents a new picture that’s different from the moment before and is never duplicated. God is the ultimate artist!

The heavens certainly declare His glory when we look up at them. They are a magnificent attention getter, and God wants to have our attention. We were created to be in relationship with Him and every time I look to the sky, I am reminded of that. He made it for us to enjoy. But, if you want to know Him not just enjoy His creation, you can find Him because He does not hide; He is near, and He wants to be found. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8

Star gazing can make it feel like God is so far away but search the scriptures and you will find just the opposite; He is quite close. I am a God who is near and not a God who is far off. Jeremiah 23:23 But, maybe, the thought of drawing near to God can be a bit scary because of our sinful heart that condemns us. After all, God is holy, and He holds the entire universe in His hands. At the same time, He is merciful, loving and waits for us to come to Him.  Let us draw near with a sincere heart. says Hebrews 10:22 Genuine feelings is what God prefers. He already knows them and wants to meet with you anyway. God is so good!

While watching a documentary hosted by famous actor Will Smith called One Strange Rock, I was reminded of just how thin our atmosphere really is. That is, the area around the earth that holds our air. It’s hard to wrap my head around how it works, but the blue sky we look up at does end, and beyond it is darkness, unless you are facing the sun. Just as the sun’s rays pierce through the darkness of night and bring light in the morning, so darkness reigns in the hearts of those who do not look to the Son. God wants to be experienced, be known. His power is shown is evidenced in the skies but also in the hearts of those who trust in Him. Romans 9:7

Don’t be afraid, there is nothing to fear. God wants to near you, not away from you. He made a way for you to come to Him through the work of Jesus. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:14 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:12,13
